How to copy time machine backup disk files

I have just installed a new time machine backup disk.  How do I copy the old backups from the prior disk to the new disk?  I get error messages.

Clone using Disk Utility

Open Disk Utility in your Utilities' folder.

Select the destination volume from the left side list.

Select Restore from the Edit menu of Disk Utility. A panel will drop down.

Select the source volume from the drop down menu in the panel.

Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.

Destination means the new backup drive. Source means the old backup drive.

First, properly partition and format the new drive. Then use Disk Utility to clone the old drive to the new drive.

If you wish help with error messages, then you need to tell us what they are. We can't just guess.

Thank you for the fast reply.  My Disc Utility does not seem to have a "clone" option (Sierra 10.12.3).  Using finder to copy I get "The volume has the wrong case sensitivity for a backup"  or "backup files cannot be changed"

I have a formated (and in use) new larger backup drive.  I just want to copy all the old backups to the new drive.  Any way that works will be used.

Perfect.

Thank you.

Is there a way to transfer from an old backup disk without erasing the current backup disk?
