no cd button appears for mp3 CD

Itunes doesn't recognize mp3 audiobook CDs. I have no trouble importing older audiobook CDs. The CD button appears and I'm asked if I wish to import the CD. However, when I insert an audiobook in MP3-CD format (newer audiobookcs by Brilliance Audio) no CD button appears. I have to drag and drop the audio files from a file explorer to iTunes. How do I fix this?

That is the correct behavior.  The iTunes Import (ripping) process is for audio CDs.  An MP3 CD already contains files in a format iTunes can use, namely MP3, and does not need to be ripped.  You only need to copy the files in, as you are doing.
