Predictive Text  Wrecking What I Write

Predictive text/spell check  utterly destroys everything I write in my emails  or anywhere else I am forced to use it (like here) and forces me to waste vast amounts of time correcting the whole  words & mispellings it makes. Even when I check stupid, ignorant mistakes always appear

I cannot get rid of it and the instruction on how to get rid of it in the mail help does not work, equally I notice that my junk mail instruction that junk is to be marked as junk but left in my in box are being ignored, meaning incoming mail which is not junk isn't seen and so the mail software it just total crap really.

It is the most disgustingly useless item of software I have ever come across. And I want to get rid of it forever and never have to use such rubbish ever again.

What do Apple think they are up to producing such garbage ?

Meanwhile  does anyone know if there is a way of getting rid of this awful item of useless software so that I can actually write what I want to and not what some idiot software writer has decided I should write instead.

It would help if you were clear what device you're talking about and what applications. You've posted in a Windows Software/Software update forum.

Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Text and deselect "Correct spelling automatically".

I have done exactly that and it was not checked (the box is blank & empty) as I had always instructed it to be so there is an obvious error going on with the software & entirely out of my control.

At the same time I discovered my junk email instructions were being ignored also indicating a software problem.

Separately I noticed two days ago that contacts in my contacts app were multiplying. So where there should be one name with details there are now several names with many but not all of the entries in the contacts app

I am using an imac desktop with OS sierra and this incredibly awful communities software does not allow me to post to anything remotely relevant as far as I can see so I posted it to a community which simply said 'software'.  which was the best compulsory choice available

Yet more control freakery by Apple preventing from posting properly. I loathe them.

the people in the computer industry  are really really rotten  and incompetent and I am getting very, very angry about the rubbish software everywhere.

Clicking on "Mac OS and System Software" button on the first page of the communities would have brought you to a page where the first choice is macOS Sierra:

macOS Sierra

I have no idea how you found your way to a windows forum. However, I will notify the Hosts and see if they will move this thread.

There are three principal places that control the Mail application's ability to automatically correct spelling as you type:

  1. System Preferences : Keyboard panel : Text tab
    1. Deselect Correct spelling automatically
  2. Mail : Edit menu : Spelling and Grammar sub-menu
    1. Deselect Check Spelling ▸ While Typing
    2. Deselect Check Grammar with Spelling
    3. Deselect Correct Spelling Automatically
  3. Mail Preferences : Composing : Check spelling : never

Additionally, you should disable Mail : Edit menu : Substitutions ▸ Text Replacement.
