iMac freezing at boot up

My iMac is freezing at boot up and didn't come with any discs at all. It's a late 2012 27" iMac that I bought new, and I've hardly turned it on. It will either give me a script list on the left hand side of the screen or do what it's doing now and freeze as it's booting up. Like I said, I've hardly used the thing. I've turned it off and in and have unplugged it and tried to restart using shift and option keys, but to no avail.
