Strange emails in MacMail

I'm getting, at various times, emails from addresses I know [not all the same] which contain what looks like hypertext.

Sometimes the heading seems to indicate it is an email I've received in the past, but that's about all.

Does anyone have knowledge of this symptom and know what I can do to correct it?
