Where to get a fresh new copy of El Captain?

I was given an old Mac Pro 2009 "without" a hard drive inside. Is there somewhere I can purchase El Captain?

El Captain is the most recent OS that will work on this mac.

It didn't come with a hard drive so I have to buy a new one, and then somehow get the El Captain OS onto that HDD.

You would have to buy the Snow Leopard disks first and install. Upgrade Snow Leopard to 10.6.8. Then upgrade to El Capitan.

The easiest way is to download El Capitan in another mac, then create an install disk on a thumb drive.

You can download El Capitan in a mac if that mac had El Capitan in the past. It can be a friend's mac, and the install is not tied to a specific Apple ID.
