⌘+ and/or ⌘= not working on non

I am trying to figure out why ⌘+ or ⌘= works only in VS Code...

Chrome, Safari, Preview,... some other apps reports that ⌘+ or ⌘= is zoom in. Sure. It does not work.

I have Slovak keyboard layout where "+" sign is the second key in first row (whit shift I type "1" without i type "+") and the "=" is right behind the zero (0) key (% with shift "=" without shift).

First keyboard row without shift:

< + ľ š č ť ž ý á í é = '

First keyboard row with shift:

> 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 % ˇ

The interesting thing is that if I press ⌘é  (é is the zero key without ****) the shortcut works to restore "Actual size"

If I press ⌘-  it works also.

In both safari and chrome ⌘+ is switching to first tab and ⌘= does nothing while ⌘é (⌘0) and ⌘- works fine.

All shortcuts tested with combination of shift key and also in combination of option key. But without any success.

Tested 4 apps:

Chrome: Not working

Safari: Not working

Preview: Not working

VisualStudio Code: Working

Important note: I am not talking about ⌘ option + and ⌘ option -  to zoom the screen. I am talking about Application menu -> View -> Zoom In ⌘+.

On english keyboard it works with the two keys right before the backspace key.

What I have tried:

  • Restoring System -> KeyBoard -> shortcuts to defaults
  • Reading apple docs for keyboard shortcuts but it only refers to "Accessibility" screen zoom, and not window content zoom.
  • Googling for about and hour.
  • Asking on superuser.com without any luck.

Note: I had no MacBook before. I have the 2017 base model with 256GB ssd and without touchbar, macos sierra.

Thanks

The problem seems to be that there is no "command +" in the Slovakian keyboard.

You can check for yourself by showing the Keyboard Viewer. Without holding the command key you see the + (without shift), or 1 (with shift) like you said. But holding down just the command key will yield command1, not command+ (and likewise for the other digits).

I cannot see any combination of keys that produces command+ on this keyboard.

Proposed solution: assign some other key combination to to Zoom In.

Go to System Preferences->Keyboard->Shortcuts, select Application Shortcuts, click the + button to add a new one.

Thank you, I did not know that command also modifies the first key row (where the numbers are), now it makes sense why command+ (command1) behaved like command1 instead of command+. i have configured it to command= now it works. I really think that apple should preconfigure those things for different keyboard layouts.
