Panic Report, help needed

Mac Pro - Early 2009

OS X 10.11.6

24gb of RAM

Things I have tried to do:  Removed all 24gb of RAM and tried running 8gb at a time to check if any pairs were damaged.  All pairs still had the random shutdowns happen.

Things I have noticed:  Shutdowns usually happen when watching videos, pictures or recording stuff in Logic X.  Even without using those programs or doing those processes, the computer will still shutdown.  Just takes longer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!  This is the first time I have ever asked for help on this forum, im sorry if I am missing information.  Feel free to ask if anything else is needed from me.

If you have a dual processor Mac Pro, the most likely cause is that the Northbridge chip (I/O Hub) located on the processor tray is overheating and causing the shutdowns. This chip directs the flow of data between the processors and the memory chips. The Northbridge chip normally runs hotter than any other chips in your Mac Pro, but the harder your computer is working, the hotter this chip gets. When it reaches a critical temperature, the Mac Pro will shut down to protect rest of the components.

There are many threads about the plastic heatsink fastener rivets failing resulting in the chips overheating because the heatsink is not in good contact with the Northbridge chip itself. Unfortunately, the Northbridge chip and its heatsink are located under the CPU A heatsink and cannot be accessed without removing the CPU A heatsink. This is a very delicate operation and might be best left to someone with some experience.

Here is one thread with some photos:

That is an uncorrectable Memory error:

User Tip: Mac Pro and Error Correcting Code RAM Memory

if this is a 2009 or later, its memory is organized by the each, not pairs.

This article on a hobbyist website feature pictures, as well as additional discussion. I refer to this problem as "wiggly northbridge chip" and it most definitely CAN be diagnosed without disassembly of the processor shelf (although it is easier if you power off and slide the shelf out)

Thank you so much for this!  This solved my problem!  I have built a few PC's and decided to go ahead and do the work on my own.  I removed both CPU A and B, cleaned off the thermal paste and did the same for the Northbridge heatsink/thermal paste.  I replaced the plastic clips with two M3 x 10mm screws and two M3 x .5 nuts holding the screws from underneath the motherboard.  I reassembled everything and the computer has not shut off in 1 whole day.

Thank you so much for the link.  Followed the steps to a tee and everything works great now.  The clips were damaged and the heatsink was very loose.  I replaced the clips with machine screws and nuts.  Again, thanks for the help.  Much appreciated.
