Late 2015 iMac shutting off at random

So I have a late 2015 iMac in pristine condition that has never had a single problem until yesterday. My wife was browsing the web and using photoshop when it lost power. It was unable to power back on until we unplugged it and plugged it back it. No further issues until today. Now it randomly shuts off and usually isn’t on for more than 10 minutes at a time. Each time it must be unplugged to power back on. We have spoken to 4 apple reps and have tried everything. New outlet, SMC and PRAM reset, diagnostics, safe mode, recovery mode, first aid and updated the system to Sierra. We are currently stuck at 10.12 because it keeps shutting down before the update process finishes for 10.12.6. Diagnostics and shut down log shows clean. At this point I have to bring it in for them to look at hardware. I see a lot of people online with the same issues but multiple fixes. Some say it needs a new power supply, display or logic board. These are expensive fixes and we do not have Apple care.

So here is the real question. If in the end the hardware is bad but there are no signs of damage or misuse, should the buyer be charged for repair? This is a $3700 machine that is under 2 years old. It hasn’t had to do anything more than Photoshop and Lightroom, is in a clean environment and is rarely on for more than an hour at a time.

Apple care or not, how is this our fault and not Apple’s responisibiliy to resolve?

Thoughts and experiences? I would love to get a dialogue going.
