Friend Going from IOS to Android

Hey guys so here's my really random and specific issue. My friend recently switched from IOS to Android. On my iphone I can send him SMS messages no problem. But when I try to txt him from my Mac it only sends imessages. I have my contact lists synced up over icloud, and my mac is enabled to send sms messages from my phone (and it does for other contacts). I have no idea what is going on and any help is appreciated.

(in particular, towards the bottom of the page "Send text messages to anyone from your Mac")

Ask your friend to do this:

Deregister iMessage
