delete message on all devices

I understood in iOS11 when a text message is deleted one one device - it would be deleted from the other devices, just like an e-mail. This seems to not be happening. Any ideas?

It requires that your Mac has Sierra or the as yet unreleased High Sierra.

My Mac has OS 10.12.6, but I don't do text messaging on the Mac. Both my iPhone and iPad have the new iOS 11 installed. When I delete a text message on the iPhone, it is not deleted from the iPad. I understood with iOS 11 text messages deleted on one device would also be deleted on other devices - just like happens with e-mails. Do I have to enable this in settings? Thanks!

Don't know.  Both of my Macs are at El Capitan.
