My Ipod touch (4th Generation) can't download a...

I have tried to download multiple apps but a message keeps popping up to say that it requires iOS 7.0. I have an Ipod touch (4th Generation) by the way, and I have gone to the software update to find that it says 'iOS 6.1.6, your software is up to date'. I have no idea what to do. Thanks

Don't install the copy you downloaded in iTunes. Go back to the App Store on your iPod and try downloading it from there.

Click here and try following the instructions.

If you purchase apps directly on the iPod, you may get a pop up saying an older version of the app is available for download.

it doesn't hold true for every app, but many of the staples, like iBooks, or popular apps should be available.

I tried that but I realized that the apps weren't installed yet, so I installed the apps but the same message keeps popping up, saying that it need an iOS 7.0 to be able to install. What's really is confusing is that my friend also has and Ipod Touch (4th Generation) and that problem never occurred to her, and we had the same iOS. The apps that I a trying to install are Phonto and Gmail, and on their description boxes it states that they are both compatible with iOS 7.0 and later. It has me really confused and I'm sorry that you have to put up with me. I really appreciate your help! Thanks!

You can't sync them.  You must "purchase" and download directly on the iPod.  You may get a message first, saying you already purchased, do you want to download, say yes.

again, you can't sync from computer.

This is what pops up whenever I try to install Phonto.

This app may not have an older version available.  Gmail should.   try gmail.

you can check the developer website for phonto to see if their is a solution.

See this article, particularly the "workaround" section: App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps.

(Note that I am affiliated with that site, and some pages contain ads).

I downloaded the app on iTunes and tried to install it onto my iPod but a message appeared saying, "The app "Gmail" was not installed on the iPod because it requires a newer version of iPod software." Thank you for your help!
