I currently have a case open with Apple but they are still unable to resolve it at the moment but hope someone had encountered this issue as well and managed to solved it.
My child has a game centre account which was not link to an email account. I heard you can update it to an Apple Id account. Instead of using his iPad, i went to update the process through Apple Id website (BIG MISTAKE). Went through all the process putting his age, name, secret questions and done. When log into the Apple Id website, I now get the message "
We're sorry, but your Apple ID account information can not be modified using the My Apple ID website". When I try to login to his game centre account on his iPad, it was giving me option to upgrade or do it later. But now the later option is gone and replaced with sign out, so he can no longer sign into game centre. If I try to go through the update process, it will go through to the end but then an error message will come out as his game centre is already associated with an email address, which is the one I used to update on the Apple Id website.
The issue appears to be that the update I did on the website did not fully update his account, which is why game centre still keeps asking to update it, and I can no longer update it because his game centre is now link to an email account. In addition, I also tried to login to iCloud using his email and I get an error message that it is not supported. I think the only way to fix it is that if Apple is able to finish the update process or remove the link of his email account from his game centre id and then do the update process again.
Yeah it sounds like the account is probably pretty messed up at this point. Your best option is to wait for Apple to fix it as anything you might be able to do will most likely just make it worse. Be sure you have a case number and a point of contact at Apple that you can call directly just in case you don't hear anything back in a reasonable time frame. No one likes starting over.
If there are no purchases tied to that Apple ID, you could just create a new one if you have a different e-mail address you can use.
Agree, nothing I can do to fix it. Some progress yesterday as spoke to another Apple support staff and believe this is to do with two-factor authentication being turn on for the child account, and they are looking to see how they can go about to turn it off given I am unable to log into the account to edit it.
That will be last option. It's more that his games are linked to that id, preference is to try and retain it.
Anyone having same issue as me don't bother contacting Apple. They are useless. I have two person handling my case, one was a result of calling again due to the first person not contacting me back on time but did call back later. Both took down issues and sent to the engineers. First person after getting more information never contacted back but I didn't follow up that person as felt she did not have a good understanding of Apple ID and was frustrating trying to explain to her the issues. Second person who I had higher hope as appears to have better grasp of the issue, called and got more information for the engineers. After that I didn't hear from him. Sent a follow up email over weekend and replied said will follow up engineers on Monday when they are back in. Since then I sent two emails and a phone call and no reply.
Very shocking attitude from Apple to not even reply even if they are not able to solve the issue. A courtesy email just to say the engineers are not able to do anything due to the circumstances will suffice, but apple has no decency to even do that.
End up easier to create a new Apple ID and contacted the apps creator where I needed to transfers those games over. They are more professional than Apple and replied promptly and assisted with the transfer.
