I want to replace my watch series 1, by a series 3 with cellular, but my provider will be ready to offer the service only later this year. Should I wait before replacing my watch?

If your carrier does not yet offer a compatible service plan, then Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) can still be paired, set up and used for other features in conjunction with your carrier's current plan for your iPhone whilst skipping the steps to activate cellular.

 

The cellular feature can then be enabled later, if and when you are using a compatible service plan on your iPhone in due course.
