Macbook Pro 2011 Stuck in Optical Digital

Since using the audio jack of my macbook pro as an oudio inout to record sounds, it has been stuck in optical digital out port mode in sound settings and is not passing any audio through internal or external speakers or headphones. The red light in the audio jack is sometimes on. I have reset the PRAM twice now with no result other than turning the red light off when it has been on. i have also tried to locate the microswitch and tickle it with a toothpick, but still no joy, here is a screenshot of the audio settings window Screen Shot 2014-06-08 at 10.54.56 AM.png

1.Plug in and  remove the headphone.

If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone

in and out of the port 7 or 8 times to flip the microswitch inside.

Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

2. Reset PRAM.  https://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222

3. Reset SMC.     https://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

    Choose the method for:

"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup

    Audio Devices window

    Side Bar

    Click the Built-in Output.

Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so,uncheck it.

Let me add that using a can of compressed air on the input to blow out any debris may help.
