What is the simplest, safest way to give an iPa...

I've read some answers to this kind of question but they all have many steps and use terminology I don't understand. I am a long time retired IBM mainframe programmer and Windows XP user so my mind works in a different way than it should in order to understand Apple technology. When my wife wanted a computer I told her to get an iMac so I wouldn't have to be her PC tech support. Now she has a new iPad and iPhone, and an old iPad and iMac. I'd like to have her old iPad to start learning about Apple technology. Surely there must be a simple way of protecting the settings and information on her Apple equipment while I get myself into all sorts of trouble with the old iPad.

If I do this step first: "If you can't follow either of the above steps, change your Apple ID password. This won't remove personal information that's stored on your old device, but it prevents the new owner from deleting your information from iCloud." Two questions...

1) Will doing that step then allow me (new owner) to use the old iPad on our wireless network without interference to the other Apple equipment my wife has?

2) What support document could I look at to see how to delete all the information on the old iPad, change the Apple ID and the password, and do anything else I would have to do in order to use the old iPad as if I had purchased it new?
