for the most part you can't buy an off the shelf card, put it in a Mac Pro and make it work with your system.

however there are GPU's customized to run on Mac Pros from other vendors such as bizon

or a GPU that was outfitted to a later model mac but will work with your system.

Apple OEM / ATI Radeon HD 5870 Graphics Card

Any GPU you purchase needs to specifically fit the iteration of your Mac Pro, otherwise you could purchase something off the shelf and run into a massive problem. If the device claims it works on a Mac Pro 1,1 thats great, if not you can't force it to work because it had a nifty price tag on NewEgg
