S.M.A.R.T Errors on my HDD

Hi,

I haven't used my iMac for quite a few months now due to it failing on me with "S.M.A.R.T Errors" on the hard drive.

I barely used my iMac and there wasn't anything really stored on it. I went to turn it on for the first time in a couple of weeks and it went into internet recovery. Seeing as I didn't have much stored on it and I kept most on the cloud I allowed it to wipe the hard drive and tried re-installing the OS. When clicking on the hard drive to install it on, I got an error stating the hard drive had "S.M.A.R.T Errors" and needed replacing. There is now no operating system installed on the iMac.

My question is whether or not anyone else has had this issue before, and whether anyone has managed to get around the  "S.M.A.R.T Errors" and get their iMac back up and running. Before I go spending the £270 quoted for a SSD replacement I want to ensure there isn't any other option available...

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Josh
