Opening an Excel document from iCloud Drive

Hello.  I recently moved all of my Google Drive documents over to my iCloud Drive on my mac and iPhone. When entering a folder on iCloud Drive on my iPhone it always opens the Excel files in Numbers and the Word files in Pages.  How can I get them to actually open in Excel or Word. I have have book Excel and Word on my iPhone.

This is what works for me: go into your iCloud Drive > click on your Numbers document (open it) > top right corner should be an icon (square with up arrow), click on that > (brings up menu) Open in Another App > and you should see Excel as one of the options.

Hi. Thanks.  To clarify, I do not have a numbers document.  I have an Excel document that opens in numbers from iCloud drive on my iPhone. I want to be able to go into iCloud drive, click and excel document and have it open in Excel.  Even if there is a manual step to get there that'd be fine but I can't even find that.

Open Excel and open the file from it, rather than the iCloud Drive app.

First, you can't because iCloud drive is not an "open" option under the cloud serve. Second, I shouldn't have enter another app to open something.  I wouldn't have to with Dropbox or Google Drive.

Most you can do, at this point, is to let Apple know so that they can improve their products -- https://www.apple.com/feedback/

Yes it is. I use it all the time. Tap Open from the left hand menu, then More ... from the available service options. If tapping on an app icon is to much strain for you, I suppose you can go back to Google Drive or dropbox.

It is a strain.  It's not just tapping it's:

Being in iCloud Drive and seeing the document you want to open is in Excel

Then leaving iCloud Drive to open Excel.

Then Clicking Open and then Clicking More

Then your document opens.

I'm not a program so I don't know but it seems like the most basic thing that if you have a cloud hosting system (dropbox, drive, iCloud) it'd open the document in it's original app IF you have that on your phone. So it's a bit frustrating that Dropbox has done that since day one and so has Drive.

In Excel for iPad when you have clicked to open a document then tap on the "More" option. Your iCloud Drive files should be there.

"Yes it is. I use it all the time. Tap Open from the left hand menu, then More"

This solved it for me!
