Thunderbird not downloading email

Hi for the last 4 days I've been unable to get anything other than the headers for my icloud mail via thunderbird, A PC solution that has worked perfectly up until now. Another non icloud account on pop3 in TB works fine. Trying to download any message results in server timeout messages.   I have an app specific password for this which has worked fine up until now, and am getting no error messages re passwords or anything.

I have tried increasing timeout delay & rolling back to previous thunderbird versions with no joy. I have deleted e mail, and compacted.  I also tried rolling back windows to a restore point before the issues started again no joy.

As of yesterday I am no longer even getting the e mail headers. I can log into the account by other means & know there are e mails to download. Any ideas?  I suspect some sort of change in security at the Apple end is causing the issue, as I also tried connecting via outlook using icloud for PC which also didn't work.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  TIA
