Question re primary display

Recently, my primary Cinema display crashed off my desk which resulted in its destruction. Yeah...

As it happened, I had a spare, which is now connected. The problem, however, seems to be that my system is insisting on loading everything but the dock on my secondary display, a Viewsonic. No matter my efforts in Displays in System Works, I cannot return my primary display--the new Cinema--to its previous status as the primary display on which would appear my log-in screen as well as all desktop folders and files.

All of those remain available ONLY on my secondary display, where I do NOT want them. Why isn't changing the display order in System Works doing the job?

I've tried a PRAM start, tried also a Shift Key start, neither of which resulted in anything. It's worth noting that I have been able to make my Cinema display the primary display in Windows XP Pro in Bootcamp. There was no problem there.

I'm using OS 10.11.6 on a Mac Pro with two displays, obviously.

Thank you for any help anyone is able to offer. I have the feeling this isn't a complicated problem, except for myself whom can't figure out how to make this change.

By the way, the Dock itself has moved to the primary display, just not the log-in, the Menu bar, nor desktop files.

It's subtle. But the MenuBar is an Icon, and it determines which is the Primary display. Drag it to the display you want to be Primary.
