Connect 2017 5k imac to late 2013 imac

i would like to use my late 2013 imac with thunderbolt as a second monitor to my new 2017 5k imac. Will the apple usb-c to thunderbolt dongle allow me to do that In target display mode? If so, would it also let me back up my new imac to the old if I switch to target disk mode?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.
