iCloud Optimized Storage

Hi, I am a long time Mac user but have been using a combination of Google Photos and OneDrive for quite some time. Both of which I like, especially Google Photos. However I wanted to cycle back and give Photos a shot with iCloud Optimized Storage. Having native integration with full quality photos is very appealing. I see a lot of info and comments saying it’ll free space as needed but not too many specifics around that.

My question is; on my MacBook Pro (256GB drive) what is the max amount of drive space I can expect to see Photos use with a 100-200gb photo library and iCloud Optimized Storage enabled? What about on my iPhone and iPad (both are 64GB)?

Those precise algorithms are not published by Apple. It is widely reported that the optimized library will be roughly 10% of its previous size. iPhone and iPad libraries will be different sizes as well, since the files are optimized for screen display.
