Help with ipad unlock

We (UK gas network company SGN) have a company ipad which remained locked when a colleague left without telling us the pass code.

Simple question (which has us all stuck) is how can we unlock the ipad and pass it on the new colleague to use when we don't know the code? ?

Any help / suggestions most welcome

If you mean the passcode, click here and follow the instructions.

If you mean the activation lock, or run into it after following those instructions, ask that person to unlock it, or take it and its purchase receipt to a physical Apple Store, or if it's managed with Apple Configurator, bypass the lock through it.
