ATT chat does not work in Safari 11 or Firefox

I had occasion to chat with AT&T this morning and the chat window would not open with Safari 11, clicking on the "Chat available" bubble just made the bubble go away. After several attempts I decided to try Firefox which updated to version 56 before my eyes. Firefox 56 did not even show the "Chat Available" bubble, tried several times before crossing to the dark side and installing Chrome. Chrome had the "Chat Available" bubble and it worked correctly. Hoping for an answer since I don't really want Chrome "infecting" my Mac.
