Is it worth it to fix my Macbook Pro?

I have a Macbook Pro that I bought back in 2012. I use it almost every day and it's been through quite a bit. Maybe a year ago, I spilled water on it and it refused to turn back on. I had to wait until it dried out to use it again. Since then, there have always been a few buggy things wrong with it but nothing major. But lately, it's gotten worse. Apps freeze, it takes forever to load certain things, it barely handles updates anymore. I should have backed it up...but I sadly didn't think that far ahead. Yesterday, I went to quit the program Google Chrome and my Macbook froze completely. It restarted itself but then refused to boot. I verified/repaired all my drives in Recovery Mode and then restarted. Of course, that didn't work and I got a flashing folder with a question mark on it. I contacted Apple Support and was walked through how to fix it, but the "solution" still yielded no positive results. I went to go reinstall mac OS but my computer informed me that I couldn't install OS X Mountain Lion because a newer or more recent version was already on the drive.

I'm at a complete loss. I have an appointment scheduled to get it looked on Sunday, but I'm wondering if it's even worth it. I'm a writer, so I use my laptop daily and I absolutely need it to be working properly. Due to some recent circumstances, I wouldn't be too upset if I lost the data that wasn't backed up on iCloud. So, is it even worth it to go through and fix all my Mac's problems? I know for a fact the only problem isn't the drive, due to whatever water damage happened last year and the last thing I want to do is just pour all my money into something that isn't worth fixing. I can afford to buy a new laptop and I'm wondering if I should just do that. Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!
