How can I backup and restore data added to apps...

In the past, I have always backed up my iPhone and iPad to my hard drive as I use certain apps with extensive added data (e.g., brushes in painting apps). This ensured no data loss on a restore. How can I back up and restore my devices going forward without data loss given the new changes to the App Store with iTunes 12.7?

App data is still backed up to iTunes or iCloud. When you restore the app data is restored too, then the app is pulled in directly from the iTunes Store over Wi-Fi. I has actually worked exactly like this over the last two years for anyone who hasn't made the effort to manually keep their collection of apps in iTunes up to date.
