Massive issues since formatting my HDD

Hi,

I'm running a MacBook Pro mid 2012 model (old af I know, but still works great for the most part!)

I've recently reformatted my entire HDD (a Toshiba 512GB) as my system appeared to start 'crashing' for want of a better word - in that, after an hour or so of being on, certain video files wouldn't stream online and the computer would slow down, and when I restarted the MacBook and I would try to restore a previous session online or in a programme, it would revert to the session that was open perhaps an hour or so after the computer was first turned on - even if I had been through multiple other webpages or programme saves since (hope that makes sense!)

Since formatting my HDD and re-installing Sierra (which I figure may be a problem due to the age of my system too - but I have no means of installing any other OS) these problems have persisted and furthermore, after a minute or so of my Macbook being switched on I find I can no longer download files, save keychain information, store cookies, stream most video types or indeed save any programme files of open the likes of Notes, Photos etc. However this all works in safe mode?!

I've tried changing permissions in the Home folder in finder and ran the Maintenance programme in safe mode, I'm at my wits end. The HDD is not that old so I would like to think that is not the problem, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!
