Stop Google Stealing URL Focus

Hi,

Whenever I open a new Safari window (which I have set to Google) after a half second or so, Google automatically moves the cursor focus from the new web window's URL address field to the Google search field - not unreasonable of them but if I want to go to a regularly used web address, if I start typing the address for that website in the URL field then Safari helpfully auto completes it for me minimising the time and effort needed to open said web site.

As it is, if I open a new window, I get a few characters of the address I want in the URL field before Google cuts me off and moves the cursor down to its search field where the next few characters of what I was typing ends up... ie it all goes to pot.

Is there a way of stopping this change of focus?

Regards, Martin Winlow.

You can go to Safari menu > Preferences > Search and turn off "Include search engine suggestions". Also, you can choose to "Open to a new blank page" which should eliminate the unwanted behavior.

I'm afraid none of those tick boxes - ticked or not - helps.  The cursor focus always immediately drops to the google search field.

I have Safari set to open to a blank page and all suggestions turned on and that doesn't happen here. Suggest you try clearing Safari caches. You can either choose Safari menu > Clear History Or,  if you do not want to remove History go to Safari menu > Preferences > Advanced and check the “Show Develop Menu” in Menubar. Then, on that menu > “Empty Caches”.

Go to: Safari > Preferences > General and set New windows open with: to Empty Page instead of Homepage or Same Page.
