Backlight issue

My 2009 13" MacBook pro display has developed problem and not working. Apple support checked and said logic board needs to be changed.

Laptop boots without issue and I can access using remote desktop

Is it possible to connect an external display and use the laptop ? One technician said even external can't be connected.

Hi,

Shine a light through the Apple logo on the back of the display. If you can see the desktop and what's on it, then the issue may just be the backlight, and an external monitor may work. Before buying one, why not see if you can hook up to a friend's external monitor and check it out?

Depends on what's broken. If only the backlight is malfunctioning, you can work with an external display. But more likely the graphics processor is a goner: in that case the external display won't work either.

Yes I could see an icon on the desktop so I will now try connecting an external monitor.

Thanks.

You're welcome. Hope you'll post back with results.

I bought a BenQ GW2470H Full HD monitor and it is working so graphics card.

However i noticed few things

  1. When i do mirror arrangement, quality is not full HD
  2. if i put laptop to sleep then contents appear to be full HD !!
  3. if i do extend monitor then CPU is unusually high. I will recheck this.
  4. when in extended mode, i cannot choose external monitor as main display.

Any idea why?

Cheers,

Ashish
