I have to power down and power up router to con...

Using MacBook Pro with Sierra. I have always been able to connect to my home network with no problem. I re-set the router completely to factor settings and changed the password. I was able to connect again normally after entering the new password, but now I have to recycle the power on my router every time I connect. I see the network name but I don't connect to the internet. After I power the router down and then plug it back in I can connect without entering the wifi password. If I use Assist Me that is what it tells me to do.

 

Is there a way to have my MacBook forget my home network so that I can start over again? I don't see an option to forget or delete the network.

Yes, but be advised it's only a workaround until you fix or replace your router because that's where the problem lies.

 

(Apple menu) > System Preferences... > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced. Select all preferred networks, and remove them with the [—] (minus) button.

 

Deselect Remember networks this computer has joined.

 

Click OK.

 

Deselect Automatically join this network, then Apply.

 

You will need to select your home network and provide its password every time you want to join your home network.
