The voice reading notification alert text is to...

The spoken text from notification boxes is way too loud, much louder than anything else.  How do I turn it down.  I'm referring to the messages such as "Itunes needs your attention", not the notification sound effects, beeps. or so on.

I'm using macOS sierra 10.12.6 on a mini, sound from headphone jack to external amplifier and speakers.

Turn off this feature, deselect the “Enable announcements” checkbox.

Did you turn the volume down?

Also turn down the external amplifier volume.

If I turn down the volume, either in macOS or the external amp, then I can't hear my audiobooks, music or uTube audio. Like I said, the volume is much louder than anything else.

Verify the output volume is turned down in the Output pane of Sound preferences or use the sound menu in the menu bar if it’s visible (choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Sound, then click Output).

yes, I've done as you suggested, the notification volume does indeed go down, However, so does everything else's volume. Audible books become a whisper for example.  The system volume control, or my external volume, controls the volume of everything, which is no help since the notifications are much louder than everything else. To be able to listen to books, or music, or movies..... makes the notifications BOOM! Which annoys my wife, a lot!  BTW audiobook, music, etc, volumes are all the way up already.

So, my question is how do I turn down the volume of the notification voice, without turning down everything?  If that's  no possible, how do I kill the voice?
