iCloud Issue

Hi,

I am spending a few months in Nairobi, Kenya doing some government consulting. My grandmother gave me her old iPhone 4 that I can use when going around the city at night (in case I get mugged, I don't lose my more expensive iPhone 6S).

However, unfortunately she has an old Apple ID attached to this iPhone, not her current one, which means it's also attached to her old email account. She does not remember the password for either this old Apple ID or this old email account. As such, I cannot turn off Find My iPhone to reset the phone to factory settings to make it my own.

I cannot simply use my own Apple ID to download apps and replace the SIM because it's an AT&T phone. We contacted AT&T to unlock the phone from their end, but there is still a process on the phone itself that requires the original Apple ID used to set up the phone before I am able to use a new SIM.

I contacted an Apple Resale and Support store (ie not actually an Apple Store) here in Nairobi, and they instructed me to contact Apple directly and flag this as an "iCloud issue" (hence the title.

I can prove that this is in fact my grandmother because her last name is in her Apple ID, and her last name is my middle name.
