Desktop Icons

There appears to be an ongoing problem with the desktop icons thumbnails, in my installation of OS Sierra. Yesterday I successfully followed the procedure for deleting (and re populating) "com.apple.finder.plist" & "com.apple.desktop.plist" from ~/Library/Preferences - the icons' thumbnails were restored. But today I start my iMac and all icons are once again generic. Is there something that can be done to overcome this? I know it has no operational affect and is merely inconvenient, but if there is a remedy OR a bug that needs correcting - I can see from searching online that is a not uncommon experience, I for one would appreciate a fix.

PLEASE NOTE: I can now only find a "com.apple.desktop.plist.lockfile"
