Safari Home

Hello there,

So when I tried downloading something I immediately noticed I just installed something bad on my Macbook. Some application called 'MPlayer' launched, which I apparently downloaded, which also started 'Mackeeper'. After deleting these and running some anti-Malware, MalwareBytes congratulated me because my Macbook was 'clean' again after it had removed some nasty business.

Now everytime I start up Safari, it links me to this Yahoo 'SearchPage' homepage. For some reason I cannot change the homepage simply because these options in my preferences are greyed out. I'm clueless at this point, because I thought I had removed everything referring to SearchPage. I have tried deleting my history and caches but the problem is still there. Does anyone have a clue?

Thanks.

Hi Cpt.Pooface,

Try these steps for troubleshooting.

1. Press Command + Option + Esc to open up the Force Quit window.

2. Quit Safari.

3. Hold Shift while selecting Safari from the dock and release when the window opens.

4. Adjust settings.

5. Quit Safari and relaunch application normally.

All the best.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it didn't work. The preference settings at the homepage are still greyed out.

Open System Preferences. Do you see a "Profiles" menu? Click on that, and if there is one called "Set Safari Homepage," delete it (select it and then click the "-" button).
