is scanguard a scam?
I'm getting mixed responses about the publicity about Scanguard. A recent statement appeared in the news "Thousands of Mac users across Australia are swarming to claim a system that has gone viral this year. This new system is protecting people’s Macs from hackers, unwanted software, and helping speed up performance."
Any sort of supposed Mac cleaning or scanning product is useless for your Mac. If you are having issues with malware, then you can use MalwareBytes anti Malware product, but everything else out there is garbage, and will make your Mac perform worse than you can imagine.
Stay far, far away from things like that - they are out to make money on you, and that's it. A Mac is not a PC. It doesn't need that kind of garbageware to keep it running well and smoothly.
Cheers,
GB

No reputable news agency would say that, as it's so obviously marketing spiel, vague and unsourced. Scanguard is yet another "fix-problems-you-don't-actually-have" utility that's designed primarily to separate the unwary from their money.
A recent statement appeared in the news ...
The statement you quoted is from an entertainment product masquerading as news.
Excerpted from Effective defenses against malware and other threats:
- Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
Non-Apple "anti-virus" or "security" products are worthless, and as you surmised the "Scanguard" app is a scam.
Thank you Gail, Terence and John. My suspicions have been verified. Hope others are helped.
You are most welcome! Glad you asked!
Cheers,
GB
Thank you for your thoughts, it helped me
It now appears that publicity on Scanguard is appearing in the local press here now.
