How does Apple determine water damage?

Hi everyone,

I hope you guys are keeping well

I have a 2014 Apple macbook pro which is still under warranty until December 2017. Unfortunately, I dropped my macbook which has caused a hair line crack on my screen (single hair line crack is covered under warranty) and my SD card reader doesn't always load my photos. Long story short, I took it in for it to be fixed and was told that there is some unknown water damage to the laptop which now voids my warranty so they won't be able to repair anything unless I pay $1,500! I asked for a photo to be taken because I wasn't buying it especially as I knew I never spilled any liquids on it which they did. I took it to an independent repair shop for a second opinion. The specialist opened up the laptop in front of me and said there's no water damage and showed me that the water damage indicator is still white. I feel like Apple is trying to pull a fast one on me by not having to repair my laptop but also trying to have me spend $1,500 in repairs. Has anyone else been in this situation? Or can anyone shed some light on this?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reading my rant lol
