What will happen to my events in the photo libr...

I'd like to turn on iCloud for my photos to be viewed on all devices, but I'm hesitating to make the switch on my MacBook.  Normally Ive been syncing with iTunes.  What will happen to all my photos already assigned to Events on my Mac? Will they disappear like they did when I turned on iCloud on my iPhone?
