Can my 4th gen iPod handle iOS 7?

I bought it when it was ios5, and I upgraded to iOS 6. It lags a lot when I open high-end programs (it's actually lagging as I am typing this). But when I just surf the web or text it's fine.

Question is, can my iPod handle iOS 7? All I'm going to do is use safari, iMessage, and play music . Probably not games .

We dont know if apple will support ios 7. Probably not if it causes it to work improperly. But no one but Apple knows for sure.

It's not officially out yet, but they've publicly released the system requirements.

I might buy a 5th gen iPod Touch. Will the 5th gen lag while using iOS7?

Regardless of whether it can handle it or not, may I ask if another version of the iPod Touch is coming out with a faster processor?

Probably not. The 5th gen is powered by the Apple A5 (Dual-Core). The same chip as the iPhone 4S, so no, i don't think so.

And Apple released the 5th gen last year (Big Update to the 4G model) and a new 16 GB model in May. So probably not, but idk what Apple is doing.

So when it comes to the point where iOS 6 is obsolete, you're basically expected to toss you 4th gen iPod Touch? Even though the device is only a few years old and Best Buy and Future Shop along with other electronics stores still carry that generation of iPod Touch? Mine is a brand new unit just replaced in January due to a cracked screen. Typical Apple. This is why I have a Galaxy S4

I find it very annoying that Apple charges so much for these products and yet doesn't support them for very long.  I no longer buy Apple products except for bargains on used ones because of this.  This built-in obsolescence is ridiculous.

They could at least make apps that work on older devices, such as iTunes Radio.  I remember when I touted Apple products compared to Microsoft, because Apple didn't coerce you and limit your choices like Microsoft did.  Now Apple's as bad or worse than Microsoft ever was. 

Apple screwed up with the 4th gen.. i suggest waitin for the 6th gen. If there will be one... I don't know what they are doing and dbrucestevens... apple supported my ipad two for almost 4 years now... i usually upgrade every four years so good enough for me...

the ipod touch 4gen CAN run ios 7 the same as a iPhone 4 would be able to run it, apple is just too greedy to release it on the ipod touch 4gen to try to make its customerbuy their newer devices.

The iPhone 4 has 512MB of RAM. The 4th Generation iPod Touch has 256MB of RAM. How do your propose doubling the RAM in your Touch (iOS 7 requires 512MB).

   There is nothing you can do! If you want iOS 7 you much purchase iPod Touch (5th gen).
