iCloud dual identity

I have inadvertently entered the wrong id and password into a new phone and now can't access the backed up data from my old phone. Trying to change the phone id I'm instructed that it is already in use (obviously) and it can't be used. I've removed my old phone, but other devices are using the id. Help and instructions please.
