iTunes download errors

I am working on a newly restored HP laptop that had iTunes removed.  In trying to download iTunes now, I keep getting the error message errors occurred during installation before iTunes could be configured.  Your system has not been modified.  To complete the installation,  run the installer again.

Any ideas?  Thanks!

Open the control panel and go to 'Add remove Programs'.

Do any of these programs exist?

  1. iTunes
  2. Apple Software Update
  3. Apple Mobile Device Support
  4. Bonjour
  5. Apple Application Support 32-bit
  6. Apple Application Support 64-bit

If so, iTunes was not uninstalled correctly last time. These programs must be uninstalled in this exact order, and then you can reinstall.

Here's the article: Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later - Apple Support

Try repairing Apple Software Update from the Programs and Features control panel, then uninstall it before trying to reinstall iTunes. If it won't repair try the MS install & uninstall utility mentioned in note 1 in the following guide.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Those had all been removed already.  Thanks for the suggestion, though!

OK, thanks.  I'll keep looking, as everything was uninstalled already.  appreciate the response!

Try the Microsoft tool mentioned above. See the Install missing components section and see if adding things one at a time works. iTunes should work even if you cannot reinstall Apple Software Update.

I figured it out...I had to run the installer as the administrator.  I saw that in one of your linked articles.  Thanks!

You're welcome.
