Telephone Support

I suspect that Apple has changed its telephone support hierarchy, and I think it's not as helpful as it once was.

My Mac Book Pro was frozen, and I did all the standard restart procedures to bring it up, but none worked.

 

I could not get an appointment at a Genius Bar near me, so I called the support number.  The person(s) I spoke with were very pleasant, but unable to fix my problem, or to guide me to a fix. Their knowledge was quite limited, and there was no escalation procedure. If this is so, it puts a great burden on the stores, and obviously reduces the quality of support for users.



Not all problems are easily fixed by phone... What seems to be the trouble?
