I just bought the Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB

just bought the Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter to connect my external monitor (Mac) to my MacBook Pro... it doesn't work. How can I troubleshoot this?

I have already tried it with my MacBook Air and it works fine, so it's clear that either my MacBook Pro isn't set up for this yet, or the adapter cord doesn't work properly.
