Wifi internet really slow only on iMac

I've had this problem for a while and my iMac has been in 2 different locations in my house.

 

The internet speed is really slow - 1mbps at best, even though the signal bar is showing full!

If i put my iPhone, iPad or macbook in the same place i get 40+mbps!!

 

So for some reason my iMac is running so much slower than all other apple products and virtually unusable. My software is fully up to date on OS X 10.7.5

 

Has anyone got any idea what is causing this and how i can finally solve this annoying and frustrating problem?

It sounds like you are getting very slow internet speeds on Wi-Fi using your Mac, but iOS devices seem to function without issue. I would suggesting  the Wireless Diagnostics tool to help you get that resolved:

Today i received my 2017 imac 27" and the wifi download speeds are 1/5 that of my 2011 MBP.

iMac 2017: 17 Mbps

MBP 2011: 114 Mbps

 

Diagnostics tells me nothing and both machines have the same settings.

My 2011 is 802.11n - in theory my new iMac should be faster.
