Which Macbook should I buy?

I'm looking for a Macbook and I'm not sure which one to buy. I do a lot of traveling so I'm looking for something lightweight with minimal adapters required. My backup hard drives are all standard USB A and I'd like to plug the memory card from my camera straight into the laptop. I use my laptop mostly for web browsing and photo editing.

I'm happy to buy refurbished and I'd like to spend under $1,200

If I were you I would go for an older model MacBook Air. Should have all the ports you need, and should be able to handle photo editing software as long as you aren't overloading it. You can get one new for as little as $999, but this is with minimal power and it's only 13". A MacBook Air 15" with 16gb RAM (will be better for photo editing) stars at $1999. Look around maybe a 2015 of this model used. You could look into a MacBook Pro (better processor) but be prepared to spend more and it is heavier.

What you're describing is a MacBook Air. It's 13", small/light and has a full array of ports. If you go to a 13" MacBook Pro, there's no problem with the size, but it's considerably more expensive and has only Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports. The much more powerful 15" MBP is also much larger and much more expensive.

Make sure you get at least 256GBs of storage. I can almost guarantee you'll someday be unhappy with only 128. Also consider refurbished for more machine for your money (Refurbished MacBook Air 13" - Apple Certified Refurbished Notebook Computers - Apple). I see some upgraded 2.2GHz MBAs there, including a 2017 2.2GHz with 256GBs of storage for $1149, or a 1.8/512 for $1189.
