How can I get the map to show up after I complete a outdoor walk or run workout?
Hi
How to record a route map for your Outdoor Walk or Outdoor Run workouts depends on your Apple Watch model.
Apple Watch (first generation) and Series 1 models can access Location Services data from the paired iPhone if it is taken along during outdoor walking, running and cycling workouts. Series 2 and Series 3 models have built-in GPS.
After saving your workout, once your iPhone and Apple Watch have reconnected (if appropriate), a thumbnail of route map is included in the workout summary in the Activity app on your iPhone. Tap on it to view the full size version.
More information:
- Work out with your Apple Watch - Apple Support
- End and review your workout
- Use the Activity app on your Apple Watch - Apple Support
If the Workout app and Activity app are not performing as expected in recording a route map, then the following steps may help:
- Check your workout summary:
- On your iPhone, in the Activity app, go to: Workouts (tab) > tap on a workout > if a map has been recorded, a thumbnail image is shown under the heading "Route" > tap on it to view a larger image of your route map.
- When recording specific fitness activities, be sure to use the Workout app and to choose the activity type that most closely matches your workout, including choosing Outdoor Run and Outdoor Walk as appropriate.
- Check that Wrist Detection is turned on and that, if passcode is enabled, you are unlocking your Apple Watch after placing it on your wrist.
- Check that you are wearing your Apple Watch sufficiently snugly on the top of your wrist (if it is worn too loosely, your watch may believe that it has been removed):
- On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness - check that both Fitness Tracking and Health are enabled.
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Privacy > Motion & Fitness - check that both Fitness Tracking and Heart Rate are enabled.
- On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Location Services:
- Check that Location Services (the main setting at the top) is turned on.
- In the list of apps beneath, check that Apple Watch Workout is set to While Using.
- If each setting is already enabled:
- Try briefly turning off Location Services and then turning it back on again.
- Try briefly changing the setting for Apple Watch Workout to Never and then back to While Using.
- Also enable options under System Services including Motion Calibration & Distance, Wi-Fi Networking and Mobile Network Search.
- Restart both your iPhone and your Apple Watch (normally):
- Close the Watch app, Activity app and Health app (if open) on your iPhone:
- Double-click the Home button, then swipe up on each app preview to close it.
- Turn both devices off together, then restart your iPhone first:
- Close the Watch app, Activity app and Health app (if open) on your iPhone:
If you are using a Watch Series 2 or Series 3 then you should be able to go into the Activity app on your phone, tap on the Workouts icon on the bottom of the screen, tap on the workout you want to see the map for and scroll down to the bottom of the screen. Then, just tap on the map icon to open the map.
