Removing IMovie from the updater?

I am the happy owner of a MacBook Pro (15 inch, mid-2012 model) thanks to a garage sale.

I've had it for about 3 years now and smooth running.  The issue is that the Updater keeps prompting for an IMovie update, but the software isn't in my name.

When I got the laptop, the seller said they had done a reset to factory spec, and removed all software that they were not including in the sale of the computer.  As such, I don't have the security password to update the software and I can't figure out how to remove the 'request to update" from the App Store Updater.

Is there a way to work around this issue, or am I forever stuck clicking on "remind me tomorrow" when the app store prompts me to update software I can not legitimately provide a password for to update?

You need to delete and redownload iMovie, and should erase the internal drive and install a fresh OS.

I'm sorry. I forgot to mention that I Movie is no longer on the laptop. It was removed by the factory reset.

For some of us, resinstalling the OS is a major PITA.  i have tons of 3rd party software...a fresh OS reinstall takes DAYS.

Apple should make the update process more robust.  Period.
