iMessage not showing messages on MacBook Pro

I purchased a 13" 2017 MacBook Pro last night. I signed into messages on my computer, but none of my older messages are showing. The only way it shows up is if I start a new conversation. And, even then, it only shows our new messages, not previous ones.

I've made sure all the settings are correct. My phone is set up to forward my messages to my new MacBook. Everything that I know to adjust is right.

Please help.

From everything I have read, you would have to reset all settings but since this is a new device there is nothing to reset.
