BLACK SCREEN on iMac late 2012

My iMac screen goes black intermittently and is getting worse all the time.

Model is: late 2012, 27", Navdia GeForce GTx 680, 2048 mb,OS Sierra 10.12.

When the screen goes black everything seem to quit.

I can't restart without pulling the plug, waiting 10 minutes, plugging it back in and restarting with the power button.

When it restarts the screen is bright, flickers, returns to normal, the pw prompt appears, then opens and everything is ok until it happens again. It could be 2 days. or 10 minutes.

PITA.

The problem seems to occur only when I'm working with any image editing programs, not specific to any individual one. If I'm not working on an image editing program then everything seems to be ok.

I've looked at a lot of posts by others and have tried reseting the pram but nothing works.

I've switched keyboards too.

Could it be the graphics card is dying?

Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks!
