Sierra and Bonjour Multifunction with HP device

I upgraded to Sierra on a Macbook Pro and now my HP photosmart 3210 no longer scans.  It's "kind" shows up as "bonjour" instead of "bonjour multifunction."  My two other computers that haven't had the OS upgraded still work just fine (both El Capitan).  HP is no help and the product is no longer supported.  I have tried every version of resetting the printer, computer, removing the device and adding it again, disk utility to repair permission, and downloading the latest drivers from apple (which state print and scan with HP photosmart 3200 series is supported).  Any assistance would be appreciated.

HP appears to have abandoned support for a huge swath of printers and multifunction devices.

You may not need HP's software to use the scanner. For scanning documents, please read Mac Basics: Using a scanner - Apple Support.

If that does not work and you decide to replace the device, I strongly recommend purchasing a replacement from a company actually interested in supporting Macs. HP doesn't qualify.

Hi,

i have the same problem with HP Photosmart 5180. Currently no HP driver works with Sierra.

I found Vuescan which uses it's own drivers. It works with Sierra and HP, but is not cheap.

I think we need for a Sierra or HP driver update.

Bye

Alex

Same HP Photosmart 3210 and same problem.

But, in 10.12.4, with an upgraded system from 10.11.6, it's work fine. And Bonjour multifunction is present.

With a clean install of Sierra 10.12.4, Bonjour multifunction not present after download HP drivers from Apple update. I download the complet HP drivers 5.0 from Apple support site. The same.

So. After lot of coffee cups (dark and strong coffee) : Eureka ! (in greek, I found it).

1. reset print system :

in Preferences System > Printers and scans

secondary click (ctrl+click) on left column windows (on the printer picture)

2. disable Gatekeeper :

in Terminal => sudo spctl --master-disable

in Preference System > Security > General => allow app downloaded from : anywhere

3. reboot Macintosh

4. Configuration HP Photosmart 3210 :

in Preferences System > Printers and scans > … you know how

Bonjour multifunction is come back

5. enable Gatekeeper :

in Preference System > Security > General => allow app downloaded from : App Store and identified developers

in Terminal => sudo spctl --master-enable

I hope that's works for you.

This worked for me with my HP OfficeJet 6300 series All In One (Fax, Print, Scan) in macOS 10.12.6.

There are two devices I needed to add:

"Bonjour Multifunction" for Print/Scan

"HP Fax" for Fax.

If it says "Bonjour" only, then you don't get the Scan option. Reseting the print system, etc..., and restart made the "Bonjour Multifunction" option appear.
